The EU sponsored crucial public consultation on setting new norms and procedures of the generalised system of preference (GSP) will expire on June 03.
This is very much important consultation for Bangladesh as it will determine the fate of the country in terms of getting the new GSP facility which will be implemented from January, 2024.
The existing GSP regulation introduced in 2012 will replace the new one.
The European Commission has launched the online public consultation in order to seek comments from interested parties since March last.
An official working at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) on Thursday told the FE that they had urged the interested parties to submit the questionnaire within May 31.
“This is very much important for us and all interested parties should submit their valuable comments within the deadline “said an official who familiar with development at the MoC told the FE.
He said the parties also should inform MoC about their submission.
Bangladesh is a major beneficiary of the EU GSP as the country's around 60 per cent shipment is meant for the 27 member economic block.
