The Department of Health issued highest alert in Benapole Land Port and international check post on Monday soon after three cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Bangladesh for the first time.
The department employees are conducting health check-up of the passengers and truck drivers, who are coming from India.
The lone digital thermal scanner in the port has remained inoperative from long time.
Consequently, proper test for coronavirus becomes impossible for the heath department.
Special medical teams are testing Indian truck drivers and helpers and domestic and foreign passengers from India only with hand thermometers for coronavirus.
Twenty-five truck drivers and helpers from India had been sent back to their country on Sunday as high temperature was found in their bodies.
Indian authorities have issued a red alert in the Petrapole port and their check-post areas.
Dr Zahidul Islam, in-charge of the medical team working at Benapole Immigration, said 25 truck drivers and helpers were sent back to India because of high temperature in their bodies.
Now health tests are being carried out with hand thermometers as the lone digital thermal scanner is out of order.
Sources at the Department of Health said the matter of the digital thermal scanner lying inoperative has been informed to the Ministry of Health.
Dr Abu Shaheen, a civil surgeon of Jashore district, said the digital thermal scanner at Benapole check-post lies inoperative even though there are problems with the health test as well.
Health tests are still being done with a hand thermometer. The matter was informed to the Ministry of Health. Hopefully, it will be resolved within two to three days.
