Writ seeks full lockdown in Dhaka city for two weeks

A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Thursday seeking its directives upon the respondents to declare a fresh lockdown in whole Dhaka city for at least two weeks and collect sufficient high flow oxygen cannula for the treatment of Covid-19 infected patients.

Advocate Manzill Murshid on behalf of advocate Md Mahbubul Islam filed the petition through email in the virtual High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim.

Cabinet secretary, health secretary, finance secretary, prime minister office's secretary, director general of directorate of health services, additional secretary of hospital division of health ministry, additional director general (administration) of health directorate, Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner, director general of RAB and mayors of the two city corporations of Dhaka have been made respondents in the petition.

In the petition, the petitioner prayed to the High Court to direct the respondents to take all necessary steps to lockdown the Dhaka city area for at least two weeks immediately excluding the operation of Parliament activities and other necessary operations and to ensure 'stay home' of the Dhaka city dwellers.

He also prayed to the court to direct the DMP commissioner and DG of RAB to provide all sorts of logistic to ensure lockdown.
