Different lower courts in virtual hearings across the country granted bail to 33,155 people in 20 working days from May 11 to June 11.
Md Saifur Rahman, special officer of High Court Division, confirmed this to the Financial Express (FE) on Friday morning.
The courts also settled 60,389 bail petitions during the period of time under review.
Different lower courts in virtual hearings granted bail to 5,675 people in the five days to Thursday (June 7 to June 11).
The courts also settled 12,762 bail petitions during the period.
A total of 1,184 people got bail in Dhaka division that witnessed settling of 2,856 bail applications.
Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Tribunals, settling 260 applications, granted bail to 101 people.
Apart from this, different children courts, settling 112 applications, ordered bail to 65 people.
The Supreme Court suspended the operation of all courts as part of the government efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus since March 26.
However, the court proceedings began through a videoconference on May 11 after President Abdul Hamid promulgated an ordinance on May 10 that allows all courts to conduct trial proceedings through the videoconference and other digital means.
