A report submitted in the High Court by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) said that the United Hospital authorities did not take their permission to build the corona isolation unit in where a fire incident killed five persons including three corona patients on May 27 night.

The Rajuk submitted the report in the High Court on Sunday complying with the court's earlier order. Fire Service and Civil Defense authority and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) also submitted their reports over the incident yesterday.

Deputy attorney general Amit Talukder, concerned state council, placed the three reports in the court.

Following a writ petition, the High Court on June 2 this year sought probe reports from separate four bodies, United Hospital, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, Fire Service and Civil Defense authority and Dhaka Metropolitan Police, on the fire incident.

But it could not be confirmed that the United Hospital submitted their report in the court or not.

After holding hearing on the reports, the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim fixed June 22 for further hearing and passing order.

Fire Service and Civil Defense authority report said that if effective steps were taken to extinguish the fire, it would have been possible to save the lives of the patients and DMP report said that the hospital authority did have the negligent in preventing the fire.

Two Supreme Court lawyers, Barrister Niaz Muhammad Mahbub and Barrister Shahida Sultana Shila, filed the petition on May 30 this year seeking HC directives for cancellation of the licence of United Hospital and compensation for the victims' family.

A devastating fire, which started from an air-conditioning unit in one of the four rooms there, killed five patients, who could not get up and escape, on May 27 night.

The five patients who were killed in the fire incident were--- Riazul Alam, 45, Khodeza Begum, 70, Bherun Anthony Paul, 74, Md Monir Hossain, 75 and Md Mahabub, 50, said a United Hospital statement.

They were undergoing treatment with COVID-19 like symptoms at the isolation ward outside the main hospital building, said the statement. Later, the fire service was informed immediately who brought the blaze under control within 15-20 minutes.
