Police have detained two leaders of BCL's BUET chapter in connection with the murder of a student in the early hours of today (Monday).

They are now being questioned, Lalbagh Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Md Sohrab Hossain said.

The detainees are Mehedy Hasan Rasel and Muttakim Fuad, respectively general secretary and vice president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)'s Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) chapter.

Early in the morning, the law enforcement agency recovered the body of Abrar Fahad, a student of BUET's Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

A second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering, he was found dead on the stairway in the early hours of this day, said Chawkbazar Police Station OC Sohrab Hossain.

Abrar, a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall, was called up from his room at 7:30pm on Sunday, said police, quoting the students of the hall, bdnews24.com reported.

Later, his body was found on the first-floor stairway of the hall at 2:00am.

“There are injury marks on Abrar’s body. It is not clear who called and killed him,” the news agency said quoting said OC Sohrab.

Earlier, BCL's BUET had allegedly questioned Fahad Abrar suspecting his involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
