Road Safety Foundation (RSF) demanded for 10 days (May 21 to May 30) country-wide lockdown during the pre and post Eid vacation to help control coronavirus transmission.

RSF Chairman Professor Dr AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, its Vice-president Jyotirmoy Barua and Executive Director Saidur Rahman made the plea in a statement on Wednesday.

It said the situation of coronavirus pandemic is deteriorating day by day. Although the government has extended general holiday on several occasions, the movement of people has increased because of allowing production of garment factories and running of different shopping places on a limited scale.

Except passengers' buses, all types of vehicles are running in the capital. In the last few days, the roads, highways and ferries experienced a huge rush of home-bound people. Besides, the people also will visit houses of their relatives and neighbours on Eid day as part of tradition to observe the festival.

So, it will increase the risk of spread of the killer virus massively across the country, the expressed its fear.

In this situation, it is urgently needed to employ law enforcers in important locations including boat-terminals, large bridges, on roads and highways and at entrance points of district towns to control the movement of people, it observed.
