Authorities in Rajshahi on Tuesday put the district under lockdown following the detection of two coronavirus cases there.
Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque made the announcement in a public notice in the morning.
According to the notice, a large number of people from Dhaka and Narayanganj, currently the hotspots of COVID-19 transmission in the country, are coming to the district.
So, the district was declared under lockdown following the suggestions of the civil surgeon and law enforcement agencies, it said.
No one will be allowed to enter or leave the district during the lockdown. The plying of all modes of vehicles will also remain halted.
However, emergency services will remain out of the purview of the lockdown, according to a news agency report.
Two people have so far been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Pathiya and Baghmara upazilas. Both of them recently returned from Dhaka and Narayanganj.
