Political violence declines in 2019

Incidents of political violence in the country witnessed a drastic fall in 2019 compared to that of 2018, according to a report of a local rights and legal aid body.

Some 39 people were killed and 2,689 injured in 209 incidents of political violence in 2019 while some 67 people were killed and 7,287 injured in 701 incidents in 2018, according to the data of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

Out of them, infighting among the ruling party activists killed nine and injured 1,149 people in 72 incidents in 2019, the ASK data said.

Violence between Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) injured 57 in four incidents, the data also revealed.
