Bangladesh has huge lapses in its preparation for fighting coronavirus, with only 22 per cent health workers having training in this regard, Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB), has said in a study today.
Globally, Bangladesh stands 149th in the world in terms of the coronavirus test with only 0.29 per cent test of its people, while in South Asia, it ranks the lowest, according to the study that has been conducted by the TIB comprehensively on the emerging coronavirus situation in the country.
The study said 74.5 per cent hospitals surveyed do not have skilled manpower, as well as insufficiency of expert physicians, medical equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Citing another study report, TIB said that 86 per cent nurses don not have trainings on the infectious disease control.
Bangladesh’s number of ICU beds against its critical coronavirus patients in the country is also insignificant. As of June 01, the number was only 399.
