Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton expressed his surprise at the disproportional ratio between registered inland ships and pilots, said a press release.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a function on “River Security Week 2019,” organised by Shipping Ministry at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Wednesday.
He said there are only 225 pilots against 26,000 ships.
Necessary steps are not being taken to solve river pollution, said the Chief Whip.
He criticised irregularities in the inland water transport sector.

He also called for further strengthening the Coast Guard and river police to come down strong on drug trafficking and illegal sand lifting.
