The number of fire incidents in slums across the country increased in 2019 compared to that of 2018, official data showed.

However, the extent of property damage in such incidents decreased in 2019 compared to the year before, according to the data of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense (BFSCD).

A total of 174 fire incidents took place in 2019 while the number was 165 in 2018, the data showed.

The loss of property was estimated at Tk 73.31 million in the last year while it was Tk 936.13 million in the year before, the BFSCD data revealed.

The data showed no deaths taking place in the last two years except for five people sustaining injuries in the fire incidents -- three in 2019 and two in 2018.
