A mild cold wave is likely to sweep over the northwestern part of the country with temperature falling in the next 72 hours commencing from this (Thursday) morning.
Weather may remain dry having partly cloudy sky over the country as winter started approaching, according to a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The night temperature is likely to fall by one to three degrees Celsius over the country beginning today, on-duty meteorologist of the met office in Dhaka Aftab Uddin told the FE.
As the winter is approaching the temperature may continue to drop till December 21, and is likely to fall below 10 degrees Celsius in northwestern part of the country, he added.
During this period of time a mild cold wave is likely to sweep over the northwestern part of the country, he mentioned. The weather is likely to improve slightly with the rise in temperature on December 22 and then it may fall gradually again from December 26, with possibility of cold wave in January, he added.
Moderate to thick fog is also likely to occur over the northwestern part of the country while light to moderate fog in some other parts of the country from late night to early morning, according to the met office.
The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded 29.8 degree Celsius at Teknaf while the lowest temperature was recorded 10.8 degree Celsius at Rajarhat of Kurigram.
According to the website of the Meteorological Department, the lowest temperature in Dhaka on Wednesday was 16.4 degrees Celsius. In Chattogram, the temperature dropped to 14.0 degrees Celsius.
The sun sets today (Thursday) at 05.15 pm and rises at 06.36 am tomorrow (Friday) in the capital.
