The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD & Co-operatives) has taken a set of measurers for the people affected by cyclone 'Amphan'.

Under the move, the ministry has sent necessary items, including pure drinking water, spare-parts for tube-well, soap, hand sanitiser and bleaching powder etc to the affected coastal districts.

It also directed the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to take necessary steps for rebuilding the cyclone-damaged rural road networks.

A high official of the ministry told the FE that one million water purification tablets were sent to the affected coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali and Barguna.

Besides, three mobile water treatment plants (each having the capacity for treatment of 2,000 litres of water per hour), 5,000 water jars (each with 10-litre capacity), 500 hygiene kits, and one water carrier were sent to each of the cyclone affected districts.

About 1,000 new tube-wells and 500 movable toilets were supplied to each affected district.

Besides, necessary equipments were also sent to the districts to help raise height of the tube-wells that were submerged due to tidal water surge.

The official further said technicians from the non-affected districts were also brought to the affected districts for maintenance of the cyclone-damaged tube-wells.

The Local Government Division has also opened a control room in the ministry with telephone number - 9573625.

The ministry official added that they will provide more logistic supports to the affected districts, if necessary.
