India hands over third tranche of virus aid

India on Wednesday handed over the third tranche of emergency medical assistance to Bangladesh.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das handed over RT-PCR COVID-19 testing kits, capable of running 30,000 tests, to Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen at his office.

The High Commissioner told the minister that these testing kits were manufactured by ‘My Lab Discovery Solutions Private Limited’ in India, and are widely used in the country to detect the coronavirus infection.  

She also said Bangladesh is the first partner country to receive these kits from India which reflects the strong relationship between the two nations. 

Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen appreciated India’s help for three tranches of assistance after the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

This assistance under the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund is intended to support the efforts of Bangladesh government to contain the spread of coronavirus, said a spokesperson of the Indian High Commission.

The RT-PCR testing kits were dispatched to Institute of Epidemiological Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Government of Bangladesh. 

The first tranche of emergency medical assistance, containing 30,000 surgical masks and 15,000 head caps, was handed over to the government on March 25. 

The second tranche, consisting of 50,000 sterile surgical latex gloves and 1,00,000 Hydroxychloroquine medicine tablets, was delivered on April 26, the spokesperson added.
