India confirms Modi's Dhaka visit

Indian foreign ministry on Thursday confirmed their Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka to attend the birth centenary programme of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Raveesh Kumar, spokesman of India's external affairs ministry, announced this at the weekly media briefing, reports Indian media.

"We are all set to welcome the Indian Prime Minister," Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr AK Abdul Momen told the FE on Thursday evening in his instant reaction.

"The invitation to Modi to attend the launch of the 'Mujib Borsho' celebration was extended by Sheikh Hasina during her visit to Delhi in October last year and we are expecting his visit," the minister said.

The formal announcement of Modi's visit came on the heel of cancellation of a number of state programmes by Modi due to the outbreak of coronavirus in India.
