Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity on Monday called on the government to impose a 10-day curfew before and after the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr to prevent the transmission of coronavirus further.

The organisation's Secretary General Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made the call in a statement saying: “Over the last few days, overwhelming crowds of homebound people have been noticed on roads, highways and ferries marking upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.”

This scenario has raised the fear of coronavirus infection across the country further, he added.

Every year on Eid-ul-Fitr, more than 30 million people from the major cities of the country, including the capital Dhaka, travel to their respective village homes to spend Eid holidays with family members.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, people are seen leaving major cities, like previous years as tradition,in various ways in closure of public transport which will take a terrible form of virus infection.

Thus, the passenger welfare association urged the government to impose a 10-day curfew before and after Eid to prevent the spread of coronavirus by ‘celebrating Eid wherever one is’, as directed by the government.
