The government has intensified its efforts to complete this 2019-20 fiscal year’s development works at the district level amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, an official said.

The local government, rural development and co-operatives (LGRD & Co-operatives) ministry has taken an initiative, to this effect.

As part of the move, LGRD & Co-operatives Minister Md Tajul Islam through zoom video conferencing directed all 64 district executive engineers of local government engineering department (LGED) to implement cent per cent works of the annual development programme (ADP) within the stipulated time.

“You (executive engineers of LGED) should implement the development works under ADP by ensuring their qualities / standards,” the minister was quoted as saying by a high official of the LGRD & Co-operatives on Wednesday.

The ministry official said the executive engineers informed the minister that about 75 per cent to 80 per cent development works under ADP have been completed in all most all the districts.

He further said the executive engineers have informed the minister about some problems they have been facing to implement the rest of the ADP works.

The executive engineers told the minister that they have been facing problems like carpeting of roads during rains, shortage of workers/manpower and difficulties to import stone and transportation roadworks.

Besides, the strict enforcement of the ongoing extended lockdowns and health safety issues have also delayed the LGED works/ activities.

The minister assured the districts LGED officials that the problems will be solved soon as the government has taken some steps to relax the restrictions on the ongoing lockdown.
