Former lawmaker Advocate Ahamed Ali died at a city hospital on Saturday. He was 97.

The veteran politician and also a language movement activist left behind five daughters, four sons and a host of well-wishers to mourn this death.

Former railway minister Mujibul Haque, former vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council Advocate Baset Ali Mozumder, Upazila Chairman Advocate Aminul Islam Tutul, Police Superintendent Syed Nurul Islam and ADM Kaiser Md Farabi, among other, attended his namaj-e-janaza on Cumilla town hall premises.

He was laid to rest at Shasongacha graveyard in Cumilla.

Born in Kazalia under Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmmanbaria, he hoisted the flag of Shadin Bangla on Cumilla Town hall premises on December 8, 1971.

He was elected the member of the parliament under Cumilla 5 constituency in 1970. He was the first district administrator of greater Cumilla (Brahmmanbaria, Chandpur and Cumilla).
