FE journalist among four awarded for impact reporting on nutrition

Four journalists from different outlets were awarded media fellowships for impact reporting on malnutrition in children under five, tackling nutritional issues of pregnant women, lactating women, and adolescent girls in the country.

They covered the field reporting on the ground of some poverty-driven districts Rangpur and Nilphamari on various crises in maternal and child malnutrition, adolescent nutrition, health, hygiene, gender & Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues for adolescent girl Interventions.

Kabita Bose, Country Director of Plan International Bangladesh, handed over a crest, a certificate, and Tk 50,000 to each of the recipients at a ceremony held at the Hotel Lake Castle in the capital on Thursday.


The journalists received the fellowship offered under the Joint Action for Nutrition Outcome (JANO) project, a consortium project focused on nutrition governance. The project is funded by European Union (EU) and Co-funded by Austrian Development Cooperation, jointly implemented by CARE Bangladesh, Plan International Bangladesh, and Eco-Social Development cooperation (ESDO) in specific seven Upazilas under Rangpur and Nilphamari District.

The journalists, who received the fellowship, are Hosain Md Sajibur Rahman (The Financial Express), Farhana Zaman (Jamuna Television), Afia Afrin (The Business Post), and Tarek Al Hasan( Prothom Alo).

Executive Director of ESDO Abu Zafar Noor Mohammad, Director of Care Bangladesh Amanur Rahman, Faiz Kawser, Project Manager of the Joint Action Nutrition Outcome (JANO) project, Plan International Bangladesh, head of Central and Northern Region Programme of Plan International Bangladesh Ashiq Billah, Plan International Bangladesh Communication Specialist Wahida Zaman Shithi, journalists, officials of civil society of organisations, among others, were present at the function.

The overall objective of this project is to contribute to ending malnutrition of children under five, together with addressing the national needs of pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls. To achieve the strategic objective of JANO is to improve maternal and child nutrition through implementing a multisectoral approach and strengthening national governance in the Rangpur and Nilphamari districts of Northwest Bangladesh.

The project supports the government at the district and sub-district levels in implementing the Second National Plan of Action for Nutrition (NPAN-2) (NPAN -2). The project focuses on Adolescent nutrition, health, hygiene, gender & SRHR issues for adolescent girls. Interventions.
