DUJ urges govt to start rationing system for journalists

Leaders of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) urged the government to start a rationing system for journalists during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the organisation said its President Quddus Afrad and General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu came up with this demand at the executive body meeting, reports UNB.

Appraising the Prime Minister’s directive about launching rationing system, DUJ leaders said the government ‘responded with positivity’ when they demanded rationing for ‘interested’ journalists.

They also expressed concern over the due arrears of journalists at different media houses as well as lack of necessary safety measures.

On Friday, DUJ leaders expressed deep concerns as 16 journalists, including nine in Dhaka alone, were infected with coronavirus.

They also urged the media owners to clear the arrears, including salaries of March, of journalists.
