Drug peddlers attack BGB men in Benapole

A group of drug dealers allegedly attacked the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel while the latter were seizing a shipment of phensidyl at the Daulatpur border in Benapole on Monday.

The attack took place on Monday early morning at the sand field area of Daulatpur border. The BGB men fired three rounds of bullets in self defence. A drug dealer Rahmat Ali, son of Mofez Ali of Daulatpur village, was shot and seriously injured.

The BGB admitted him to Jashore General Hospital. BGB recovered 96 bottles of Phensidyl and one sharp weapon from the spot.

Naik Subedar Saiful Islam of Daulatpur Camp of 21 BGB Battalion said that BGB chased a group of drug smugglers in Daulatpur border sand field area early Monday morning when they were entering Bangladesh with a large consignment of Phensidyl from India.

Drug smugglers attacked the BGB men at this time. When the BGB fired three rounds in self-defence, a Phensidyl trader was shot. The others who were with him fled.

Some 96 bottles of Phensidyl and a sharp home-made weapon were recovered from the spot.
