DNCC finds Aedes larvae in 175 houses on Monday

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday, the third day of its combing operation, found Aedes larvae in 175 houses and establishments in the capital and fined Tk 54,000.

A total of 14,053 houses, establishments and buildings under construction in 54 wards were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 175 of them.

In addition, 9,567 houses and establishments had a suitable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding.

Those areas were cleaned by the DNCC cleaners and mosquito repellent workers used also repellents.

Owners of other houses and establishments also were warned.

Earlier, the DNCC launched a '10-day combing operation' on Saturday (June 6) to prevent breeding of Aedes mosquitoes responsible for dengue fever.

The 10-day campaign runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm every day except Friday.

A total of 39,837 houses, establishments and buildings under construction in 54 wards were inspected in three days from June 6 to date and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 539 of them.

And in 27,803 houses and establishments, a suitable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding were available.

Besides, a total fine of Tk 153,000 was realised in last three days.

Pesticides were sprayed on Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and the city people were asked to be vigilant to this end.

Under the ongoing campaign, every ward has been divided into 10 sectors and each sector into 10 sub-sectors to help facilitate the campaign.

The combing operation is being conducted in one sector of each ward and 10 sub-sectors every day.

Thus, the combing operation will cover in all DNCC areas.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is providing various assistance in controlling the Aedes mosquito, including the combing operation.

Pictures, addresses, mobile numbers and other necessary information of Aedes mosquito larvae or Aedes mosquito breeding environment are immediately stored in an app during the combing operation.

This will help create a database of Aedes mosquitoes breeding in some areas of the DNCC at the end of the combing operation.

Later it will be easier to monitor them with the help of the database.

The app was created by Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam, Chief Engineer of the DNCC.

Even before the ongoing campaign, another combing operation was conducted in 5 wards- 1, 6, 12, 18 and 32 -from May 16 to before the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

At that time, 9,463 houses and establishments were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 187 of them and a total fine of Tk 426,000 were levied.
