Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported 37 deaths from the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the 24 hours to 8:00 am today.
With the latest victims, the death toll due to the deadly virus infection reached at 1,049, Additional Director General of the DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana said on Thursday.
On the 96th day after Bangladesh registered the first case of such infection on March 08, a total of 3187 people were tested positive afresh by the virus, during the same period, taking the number of such cases in the country to 78,052, Dr Nasima said.
Of them, 30 were men and nine women, while two were aged between 31-40, four between 41-50, eight between 51-60, 22 between 61-70, one between 71-80.
Twenty deaths were from Dhaka division, seven from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, three from Sylhet, two from Barisal, and one from Rangpur divisions, Dr Nasima said the figures at the daily briefing.
A total of 15,772 samples have been tested in 55 labs across the country during the period.
Besides, 848 patients made recovery in the past 24 hours, raising the tally of recovered patients to 16,748.
On Wednesday, 37 more people died and 3,190 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease.
Coronavirus, first reported in China, has so far infected 7,476,188 people globally and killed 419,361 of them, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.
Of the infected, 3,266,047 are currently being treated while 53,844 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
