As many as 673 people were infected afresh with dengue virus in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Friday. However, the number shows light decrease in the intensity of spreading the disease.
Of the total, 229 people were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, and 444 were admitted in other areas across the country. No death due to dengue fever was reported on the day.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has so far received a total of 203 death records, suspected to be caused of dengue, until Friday.
After examining 101 death cases among the total, it confirmed that 60 died of dengue disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On the other hand, local media reported that more people (than the official number) have become death victims of dengue until September.
Some 2,900 people are currently being treated for dengue, and 1,282 of them are taking treatment in 41 public and private hospitals and clinics in Dhaka, and 1,618 are outside Dhaka.
Of the total, the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) admitted 40 patients alone.
A total of 80,040 patients had been hospitalised with dengue since January 1. Of them, 76,937 were discharged from hospitals after recovery. About 96 per cent of the dengue-affected people were released from hospitals with recovery.
The DGHS data showed that the number of dengue-infected people started decreasing in September. But, August has already broken all previous records of dengue infection, affecting 52,636 people in a single month.
The government agencies concerned have taken extra measures, including emphasising awareness-raising, as people in and out of the city are found rushing to different hospitals.
