Cyclone Amphan: Nasrul urges power division officials to remain vigilant

State Minister for energy Nasrul Hamid on Monday asked the state-run power entities to remain vigilant and prepared to face the cyclone ‘Amphan.’

Repair and maintenance works must be done instantly to ensure uninterrupted electricity, he said.

Mr Hamid was speaking to top officials of Power Division, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, Rural Electrification Board, and Power Cell through a video conference from his residence.

The severe cyclonic storm 'Amphan' may cross coastal regions of Khulna and Chattogram, between Tuesday late night and Wednesday evening, according to the Bangladesh met office.

Due to 'Amphan', the sea has been rough and as such Bangladesh Meteorological Department asked maritime ports of Mongla, Payra to hoist danger signal number seven on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion he also instructed them to ensure electricity in every house within this ‘Mujib Year.’

When informed about the infection of some 18 REB officials by COVID-19, Mr Hamid urged them to maintain proper safety and protection measures to check coronavirus pandemic.

Power Secretary Dr Sultan Ahmed, REB Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Moin Uddin, Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain and PGCB Managing Director Golam Kibria were among others took part in the programme.
