Jashore schoolgirl ‘hangs herself’ after being scolded by parents

A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at Lebugati village in Jashore on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Puja Das, 14, a class IX student of Kalarhat High School and daughter of Pradeep Das of the village.

Quoting family members, police said Puja's parents scolded her as failed to secure desired marks in the yearly examination.

Her body was later found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Manirampur upazila.

Seeing Puja hanging from the ceiling of her house, Tripti Rani, mother of Puja and also the headmistress of a government primary school, informed the matter to her husband, reports UNB.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy, said sub-inspector of Manirampur Police Station, Altaf Hossain.

An unnatural death case was filed with Manirampur Police Station.
