CPD mourns passing of Nat’l Professor Anisuzzaman

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has expressed profound shock at the passing of its board member and National Professor Anisuzzaman.

"CPD has lost a guardian and leader who steered the institution through his profound wisdom and progressive insights. CPD family expresses sincere condolences to the members of his bereaved family", the think-tank said in a statement on Saturday.

Professor Anisuzzaman was also a member of the Citizen’s Committee during the 'Honest and Competent Candidate Movement' launched by CPD in 2006. Under this initiative, CPD prepared the “Vision 2021” document for which it received his valuable input and guidance, said the statement.

He was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh which is hosted by the think-tank.

"Professor Anisuzzaman’s contribution to the country is unparalleled. He took part in all major movements that helped Bangladesh to achieve its own identity as a nation. He participated in the Language Movement in 1952, in Mass Uprising in 1969, and in the War of Liberation in 1971", said the press release.

Among several roles played by Professor Anisuzzaman, were the position of a member of the Planning Commission to the Government of Bangladesh during the Bangladesh liberation war and a member of the National Education Commission set up by the government after liberation.

He received Padma Vibhushan from the Government of India for his contribution to Bangla literature.

"With the passing of Professor Anisuzzaman, the country has lost a great patriot, a great teacher, and a fine intellectual in Bangla literature and culture", added the statement.
