A Rohingya man stabbed another displaced Myanmar national to death at the Kutupalong Refugee Camp in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday over an old feud.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abul Khaer said the incident was reported at Modhurchhara area of the camp around 1:30pm on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mumtaz Ullah, 45 while attacker Arif Ullah was detained over the incident.

Sources concerned said the two got into a fight over a prior feud from their time in Myanmar and Mumtaz Ullah was injured in the tussle.

“He was later taken to the IOM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” OC Khaer said.

Stab wounds were found on his body, he said.

Bdnews24 said Arif Ullah, who had lived in the same area as Mumtaz, was responsible for his death, the OC said.

“Mumtaz Ullah was involved in the death of one of Arif Ullah’s brothers when they lived in Myanmar. The two fled Myanmar and eventually took refuge in the Kutupalong camp. The fight between them broke out over this prior feud,” he added.
