The Department of Environment (DoE) of Chattogram has directed to stop the construction work of Sanmar Properties at the Dunkan Hills in the port city.
The DoE also directed Sanmar Properties Limited to appear at the hearing of the DoE.
Locals complained to the DoE that Sanmar Properties has been damaging the century-old Dunkan Hills in the port city for construction of high rise buildings.
Following the complaint, the DOE investigated the matter and found that Sanmar Properties damaged the Dunkan Hills. The DoE directed Sanmar Properties to appear the hearing on October 18. But, they did not appear on that date. Later, DoE fixed the new date of hearing on October 25 (Sunday), they again missed it.
The DoE has fixed November 08 as the fresh date of hearing.
The DoE also directed Sanmar Properties to stop all types of work at Dunkan Hills.
Deputy Director of DoE Mia Mahamuudul Haque said, "Sanmar is damaging the Dunkan Hills. We have investigated the matter and found Sanmar guilty in this regard. We called them to appear at the hearings of DoE, but they did not come. However, if they will not come in next date of hearing, we will take legal action as per law."
