Combating Covid-19: DSCC, DNCC asked to form committees

The government has directed both the Dhaka City Corporations to form committees in all the wards aiming to contain the spread of Covid-19, an official said.

The local government, rural development and co-operatives ministry has asked the authorities of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to form the committees.

A high official of the LGRD and Co-operatives ministry told the FE on Sunday that there will be a 10-member committee comprising ward councillors of the two city corporations.

Later, the committee will form 10 more subcommittees comprising the representatives of city corporations, non-governmentalorganisation and eminent personalities to stem the spread of novel coronavirus.

He said the committees will help tackle rising coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, LGRD and Co-operatives Minister Md Tajul Islam reiterated his warning against misappropriation of relief materials being allocated for the poor people during the ongoing pandemic.

The local government division under the LGRD and Co-operatives ministry has asked the public representatives to remain alert for preventing the embezzlement of relief materials and cash money allocated for the poor during the outbreak of the pandemic.

At least 90 chairmen, and members of different union councils and councillors of pourashavas have been suspended so far due to their alleged involvement in misappropriation of relief materials allocated by the government for the poor.
