Incidents of child murder and rape, across the country marked an alarmingly significant rise in the first nine months of 2019 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to a children’s rights body.
Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF), in its latest statistics, revealed that at least 320 children were killed and 786 minor girls raped from January to September 2019. In the previous year, 314 children were killed and 494 minor girls were raped during the same period.
The number of rape and murder incidents was 85 and 201 respectively in 2012, 150 and 180 in 2013, 199 and 366 in 2014, 521 and 292 in 2015, 446 and 265 in 2016, and 593 and 399 in 2017.
