Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have declared a temporary pause to the ongoing protests on the campus during the university's admission tests on October 13 and October 14.
The students made the announcement to suspend the protests temporarily around 2:45pm on Saturday as the BUET authorities accepted the five-point demand of the student through issuing separate notifications.
"The protests will be eased during the entry tests on October 13 and October 14. We will provide full assistance to the 12,000 aspirants and their guardians," a representative of the student protesters said on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.
"We are not calling off the protest -- just relaxing the programmes."
Addressing the media in front of the Shaheed Minar on the BUET campus, the protesters thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Vice-Chancellor Saiful Islam for accepting their demands and the progress made in bringing to account those involved in the grisly murder of Abrar Fahad.
"We thank the prime minister, the justice department and the law-enforcement agencies. The legal process is going well. The suspects have been arrested so we have faith in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
Meanwhile, UNB report says, the authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Saturday issued notices banning organisational politics, prompting agitating students to end their protest.
The recent killing of Abrar Fahad, reportedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at Sher-e-Bangla residential hall of BUET, triggered the protest.
BUET authorities also announced a drive against illegal occupants at residential halls and seal off offices of student organisations on the campus. The university issued five separate notices signed by acting Registrar Dr Md Saidur Rahman on Saturday.
In one of the notices, the university said it will introduce a web portal where students can submit complaints about being ragged. Buet authorities said students accused in Abrar Fahad’s murder will be permanently expelled after submission of charge sheet.
The university also promised to bear expenses of legal proceedings of Abrar murder case and bring every floor of the dormitories under 24/7 CCTV monitoring.
