BUET, DU students demand capital punishment of Abrar’s killers

Students of Dhaka University (DU) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) staged demonstrations on their respective campuses demanding capital punishment of the killers of Abrar Fahad.

Several hundred students of Dhaka University, led by DUCSU Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, held a protest rally at the base of anti-terrorism Raju sculpture around 12.30 pm, reports UNB.

Addressing the rally, DUCSU social welfare secretary Akhter Hossain said it’s clear that who are responsible for Abrar’s death. “We want exemplary  punishment of the killers as soon as possible so that no such incident can take place in future.”

Akhter said Abrar’s death is the consequences of the absence of justice in the society.

After the rally they brought out a procession that paraded the main points of the university and ended in front Sher-E-Bangla hall of BUET.

Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering, was found dead in the stairway in the early hours of Monday.

According to bdnews24.com, a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall, Abrar was called up from his room at 7:30pm on Sunday, said police, quoting the students of the hall. Later, his body was found on the first-floor stairway of the hall at 2am.

Police officials visited the Room 2011 of the dormitory where Abrar was allegedly beaten and other rooms and collected evidence, said Dhaka Metropolitan Additional Police Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy.
