Bangladesh Railway (BR) authorities have suspended all 257 local, commuter and mail trains across the country due to the prevailing coronavirus situation.

The suspension took effect from Monday night and it would continue until further notice, said Mia Jahan, additional director general (operations) of the BR, on Tuesday, according to media reports.

Inter district trains are likely to be suspended from March 26, which will be decided today (Tuesday), he added.

As of yesterday (Monday), Bangladesh had reported 33 confirmed coronavirus cases, including three deaths.

China first reported COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus SARS-Cov-2, in its Wuhan province in December.

So far, the virus has affected 195 countries and territories, and one international conveyance across the world.

Until the same day, worldometer.com, a website that provides updates over diverse topics, had recorded a total of 378,842 coronavirus cases, including 16,510 dead and 102,064 recovered.

The World Health Organization, WHO, on March 11 declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic (global spread of a new disease).
