The death toll from coronavirus in Bangladesh rose to 206 as the health directorate confirmed seven more fatalities on Friday.

Besides, the tally of positive infections also soared to 13,134 after 709 new people tested positive in the last 24 hours to 8:00am today.

Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), presented the latest figures while briefing the media live on the daily COVID-19 bulletin at 2:30pm.

Among the deceased, five were male and two female.

The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 5,941 samples during the period under review, Nasima said.

Besides, as many as 191 patients made recovery in the 24-hour period, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,101.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 270,880 as of Friday noon.

It has so far infected 3,930,784 people around the world, according to Worldometer - a website that provides real-time updates.

Of them, 2,311,416 are currently being treated and 48,981 of them are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 1,348,488 people have recovered.

The novel coronavirus disease was first reported in China in December last year.

As the COVID-19 began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a pandemic on March 11 this year.
