The highly infectious coronavirus disease has killed 10 more people in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 60 in the country.
Meanwhile, the total number of infections has soared to 1572 after 341 more people tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General (Administration) of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information in a daily health bulletin this noon.
It is the biggest spike in daily new cases of the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh since the IEDCR reported first cases on March 8.
In the past 24 hours, some 2135 samples were collected from across the country and 2019 tested, according to DGHS.
Earlier on Wednesday, four more people died and 219 people tested positive for COVID-19.
Coronavirus, first reported in China, has so far infected 2,084,735 people globally and killed 134,685 of them, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.
Of the infected, 1,434,588 are currently being treated while 51,129 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
