Bangladesh confirmed 786 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 10,929.
This is the biggest single day spike in infections since the first cases of the virus were reported on March 8.
Meanwhile, one more people died of the lethal disease in the last 24 hours. With the latest, the death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 183.
Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), disclosed the information while briefing the media live on the daily COVID-19 bulletin at 2:30pm.
The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 5,711 samples in the past 24 hours, she said.
Besides, the recovery count also jumped to 1,403 after 193 patients were discharged from hospitals during the period under review.
The global death toll from coronavirus has reached 252,548 as of Tuesday noon.
There have been 3,657,733 confirmed cases around the world after the highly contagious disease was first reported in China in December last, according to worldometer, a website that provides real-time updates.
Of those infected, 2,202,450 are currently being treated with 49,645 being in serious or critical condition.
As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
