Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam on Tuesday warned of action against traders, businessmen and polluters, who are non-compliant in line with the environment law and polluting environment in doing development and construction works, and business.

The city mayor said “People, who are involved in development and construction works, and doing business in the city, must be compliant or fine will be imposed against them.”

His warning came at a roundtable held at the National Press Club, organised by Dhaka Utility Reporters Associations (DURA).

DURA President Mashiur Rahman Khan chaired the event.

Bangladesh Institute of Planners General Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan presented a keynote paper at the roundtable.

DNCC has already taken action against those who kept construction materials on footpath and road and will intensify its further action to this end from December 20 this month, Mr Atiqul said.

He also said, DNCC will not allow any type of businesses which is detrimental and threat to the environment.

The brick kiln traders must be compliant in line with the environmental law and rules as it is harming environment massively, the mayor said.

He urged the traders, who are involved with the plastic products, to find a way so that plastic bottle users can return the bottle and have money back after using the water, as excessive use of plastic is creating water-logging and polluting the city environment.
