ACC to investigate purchase of low-quality N-95 masks

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday said it is going to launch an investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement of N-95 masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare professionals.

In this regard, the commission will shortly appoint an investigation officer, according to the public relations department of ACC.

Earlier of June 5, responding to questions from journalists about the alleged graft in PPE procurement of health ministry, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said, “The commission will take legal action if there are any irregularities, corruption or forgery in those purchases.”

He noted that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had already finished its own investigation on the allegation of irregularities in the procurement during the pandemic which the Commission will collect first.

Mr Mahmood said the commission has taken the allegations very seriously as protective medical equipments are related to the safety of the doctors, nurses and other health workers.

He also mentioned that the commission has been following media reports on irregularities or corruption in the purchase of N-95 masks and PPEs.

Besides, the ACC also received a number of complaints against the health sector in the hotline number-106, he said.
