The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Tuesday warned of stern action against any corruption or harassment of teachers and employees in new inclusion of the monthly payment order (MPO) scheme.

In light of a notification of the Ministry of Education, the process to include the teachers and employees of different educational institutions under the MPO across the country has already started, according to an ACC statement issued on Tuesday.

In this context, several teachers and employees involved in the new MPO system are anonymously complaining to the ACC that a number of corrupt officials and employees at some Upazila Education Offices, District Education Offices and Regional Education Offices are demanding bribe from them in the name of scrutinising their papers, it noted.

The anti-graft watchdog agency's intelligence division has informed the matter to the Commission, the statement said.

Instructing the officials of the ACC's intelligence division, all integrated district offices and divisional offices in an instant message, the ACC chairman asked the officials to closely monitor the MPO process.

Mr Mahmood also asked the ACC officials to lodge trap cases if needed to bring the criminals to justice.

Everyone should remember that taking a bribe is a criminal offence, so is giving a bribe. Anyone involved in this crime will be brought to justice, the ACC chairman Iqbal pointed out.
