706 more test positive for COVID-19 in BD

A total of 706 more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Thursday, according to the DGHS official.

With the latest victims the number of the total infected people reached at 12,425, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana said.

Prof Dr Nasima came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.

On the 57th day after Bangladesh registered the first case of such infection on March 08, some 130 people have recovered. With this, a total of 1910 people have so far made recovery.

Dr Nasima said that 5,867 samples were tested across the country during the period.

Earlier on Wednesday, three people died from the coronavirus and 790 others were diagnosed during the same period.

Coronavirus, first reported in China, has so far infected 3,836,177 people globally and killed 265,356 of them, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.

Of the infected, 2,263,227 are currently being treated while 48,088 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.

As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
