The number of expatriate Bangladeshis, who died of corona abroad, reached 654 until Tuesday, community leaders said.
It may be mentioned that in Bangladesh, 360 people died of corona so far.
Among the deceased expatriate Bangladeshis, the highest 260 persons died of corona in the US.
Narrating the situation of the Bangladeshis in the US, local community leader Siddikur Rahman told the FE over phone that Bangladeshis had never faced such a grim crisis in their expatriate life.
"I came to the US 40 years ago and settled here, considering it as the richest and most powerful country of the world. But, now we can see crisis of medicine, ventilation and food here during the pandemic. It was unthinkable," he said.
"In the last two months, we have lost nearly 300 members of our community due to coronavirus infection," he added in an emotion-choked voice.
The second highest death of Bangladeshis took place in the UK, where 200 died of corona.
In Saudi Arabia 88 Bangladeshis died of the infection, whereas in the UAE the number is 45, in Kuwait 17, in Italy nine, in Canada nine, and in Sweden eight.
Five Bangladeshis died of corona in France and Spain each, and the number is four in Qatar.
The death toll is one each in Portugal, Libya, the Maldives, Gambia, South Africa and Kenya.
There are allegations that some host countries, particularly in the Middle East, are not providing due care to the Bangladeshi corona patients.
Many of them cannot undertake proper treatment for lack of legal documentation, community leaders said.
According to statistics, the number of affected Bangladeshis abroad is the highest in Singapore, as nearly 15,000 Bangladeshis are infected in that country.
