A total of 47 prisoners died in different jails across the country in the first seven months from January to July of this year, according to an independent rights body.
Among them, 27 were undertrials and 20 others convicted prisoners, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) said in a report published recently.
In 2019, the number of deaths in jail custody was 58. Of the prisoners, 36 were undertrials and 22 convicts, the independent rights body said.
The ASK report also added that a total of 74 people died in jail custody in the country in 2018. Of them, 45 were undertrials and 29 convicts.
