Income tax collection witnesses 12.6pc growth in seven months

Income tax collection marked a 12.6 per cent growth in the first seven months of the current fiscal (FY18).

Revenue authorities collected Tk 327.55 billion in FY18 some Tk 35.95 billion more from that of the same period of the previous fiscal (FY17).

During the July-January period of FY17, National Board of Revenue (NBR) collected Tk 291.60 billion as income tax.

"We're getting response from taxpayers . . . they are now more conscious about the payment of income tax. It is the outcome of our income tax friendly measures," said NBR member (Income tax Admin) Md Abdur Razzak.

He, according to BSS, also stated the NBR has also intensified its monitoring to check tax dodging.

Submission of tax returns witnessed a 36 per cent rise during the July-January period of FY18 as the NBR received 1.6 million returns

Returns of the previous fiscal were 1.2 million.  

Abdur Razzak said the NBR has taken steps to build cordial relations with taxpayers so that they can pay tax without any harassment.

Alongside, efficient and skilled officials have been given posting at proper places to intensify tax collection drives, he added.
