Thursday, 31 October 2019

A Bangladeshi fisherman was shot dead by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) on Thursday morning.

Another fisherman suffered a gunshot wound in the incident at the Naf River point along Jhimongkhali border around 5am.

Border Guard Bangladesh Teknaf-2 Commander Lt Col Faisal Hasan Khan confirmed the shooting incident.

Nur Mohammad, 34, who was shot dead, was a resident of Kharangkhali’s West Maheshkhali. Abul Kalam, who was injured in the shooting, is a resident of the same area, UNB reported.

Bangladeshi fishermen have often accused BGP patrols attacking them without any provocation.

Lt Col Khan said they are observing the situation.
