At least 170 Bangladeshis died of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, in New York in the last 29 days until Saturday of this week, according to a local journalist.
Zakaria Masud, editor of Ajkal newspaper and former president of the Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association (JBBA), told the media that the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio had also announced that the undocumented residents would be provided financial assistance.
The announcement was a bit of relief for those who do not have valid papers and so have not yet received any government assistance, he added.
