ACC arrests shipping dept’s chief engineer for taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday arrested the Chief Engineer of the Department of Shipping Dr SM Nazmul Haque red-handed while taking bribe.
Nazmul demanded Tk 1.5 million from a shipping company for providing no objection certificate and approving the design of its vessel, said an ACC press release.
Later, the company informed the ACC about it and as per a deal, the company agreed to provide Tk 0.5 million.
An ACC team, led by its director of Dhaka division Nasim Anwar, arrested Nazmul from a hotel in Segunbagicha area while taking the amount around 5:45pm.
A case was filed against him.
